Insurance for Individuals
General InformationTraditional health insurance (also known as major medical) normally involves three components: Hospitalization coverage, physician coverage, and prescription coverage. Physicians and prescriptions normally have co-payments, while hospital costs are covered after the deductible and co-insurance has been met. See plans for specific details
General Information on H.S.A.'sH.S.A.'s, or Health Savings Accounts (formally known as M.S.A.'s, or Medical Savings Accounts), are normally higher deductible plans that enable you to reduce your monthly premiums. The savings can then be deposited into an interest-bearing tax-deductible, tax-deferred account to be used to off-set the "higher" deductible. If you are familiar with an IRA, this is very similar, except that you can make withdrawals, without tax penalties, for hospital bills, doctor bills, prescriptions, glasses and dentists. Distributions can be taken without tax penalty at age 65, just as an IRA is "59 1/2". See plans for specific details.
